Even if the idea of a hotel bar leaves you cold, you will quickly warm up to this destination at the Shangri-La. What is probably the best hotel bar in the city boasts spectacular views of the Bund and the neighboring Pearl Tower – the 36th floor is a great vantage point without being so high as to make the the sights below too miniscule to appreciate. The interior – created, like the restaurant, by designer Adam Tihany – is pretty stunning too. The small speakeasy-style bar is contained within a huge upturned chocolate box of fluorescent pink fabric tiles, while a mosaic carpet of pinks, yellows and greens adds to the funky vibe. Even the toilets, stainless steel cylinders with sliding doors and multicolored strip lights, have a touch of inspiration about them. The spacious DJ booth demonstrates attention to music. There still aren’t many bars in Pudong that tempt folks to cross the river, but this is definitely one of them.
