The look: Despite the tackiness of its surroundings (Datong Mill is a huge underground F&B complex decorated with water fountains, ponds, Roman statues and oil paintings; some rooms are still empty, some are occupied by former Tongren Lu girlie bars), Departure 10 Ultra Lounge has managed to combine style with playfulness. The long rectangular space is divided into 'Economic Class', 'Business Class' and 'First Class'. While there is no minimal charge in the first area, the latter two require you to spend at least 1,800rmb and 2,500rmb respectively. Of course, the DJ booth is located in the 'cockpit'.

A concept like this can easily end up being too gaudy or cheesy, but thanks to its chic design, D10 is tasteful enough for you to bring a date or even a client. Purple lighting and shiny silver couches provide a futuristic yet relaxing atmosphere, while all kinds of flight-related details come as nice surprises, like the luggage compartment above your seat.

The music: Hip hop, R&B, dancehall and pop.

The crowd: As an upscale lounge, D10 draws in a well-dressed, well-heeled crowd who love chilling out over well-made drinks, although the dancefloor can get wild at weekends. You better leave your flip flops at home.

The drinks: A list of flight-themed cocktails and shots are not to be missed, such as Mile High (70rmb), He Looks Better Now (70rmb) and She Looks Better Now (70rmb). With beers starting from around 50rmb, the prices here are almost at the Bund level, but you don't find a lounge like this anywere else in Shanghai.
